IoF2020 Use Case “Data-Driven Potato Production” coordinated by NEUROPUBLIC gets an extension

NEUROPUBLIC is the coordinator of Use Case 1.6 “Data-Driven Potato Production” which takes place in the context of the EU project Internet of Food & Farm 2020 (IoF2020), with the participation of:

• Wageningen University & Research (WUR) (Netherlands)
• Delphy (Netherlands)
• Agricultural Research Institute (Cyprus)
• Farm Frites Poland Dwa (Poland)
• LVagro (Ukraine)

The specific activity is expected to be completed by the end of 2020; however, its positive results so far contributed to its selection for extending its work with new pilots until the end of 2020. During the next months, new gaiasense telemetric agrometeorological stations will be installed in Greece (Dystos, tomato) and Cyprus (Omodos, grapes), in order to test the services developed in the context of the project in other crops as well.

At the same time, a collaboration will take place with IoF2020’s Use Case 4.5 “Digital Ecosystem Utilization”, which is coordinated by Future Intelligence from Greece with the participation of ITC Cluster (Slovenia), the Agricultural Research Institute (Cyprus) and the Nicosia University (Cyprus).

The aim of this collaboration is to enable the interoperability between the services developed by the two Use Cases, in order to maximize the benefit from their application not only in the agricultural sector but also in wider areas like environmental monitoring.

The expected results of the specific collaboration are the following:

• Establish 2 new testbeds in 2 countries and engage a network of stakeholders and IoT-users around each of them.
• Establish a new data collection infrastructure in 2 countries, consisting of (low cost) weather/ soil stations.
• Demonstrate interoperability and the seamless and secure flow of data among different SF solutions, using the FIWARE Generic Enablers (e.g. Orion Context Broker) and NGSIv2, which are part of the IoF2020 IoT ecosystem.
• Offer Smart Farming services for each country, based on the collected data and adapted to the needs of each selected crop and microclimate and develop cross-domain and cross-sector weather services.
• Demonstrate the project’s results to accelerate adoption at national and EU level.

About Data-Driven Potato Production

Use Case 1.6 “Data-Driven Potato Production” is one of the activities implemented in the context of the Horizon 2020 project Internet of Food & Farm 2020 (IoF2020). The aim of this activity is the support of potato production in Poland, Ukraine and Cyprus – three countries with significant tradition in potato production – using an approach based on NEUROPUBLIC’s gaiasense smart farming system.

In the context of IoT4Potato, NEUROPUBLIC’s telemetric agroenvironmental stations were installed in selected potato fields of these three countries and smart farming services for the irrigation and crop protection of potato were developed and adjusted to the microclimatic and soil conditions of each area.
