The project focuses on modernizing the agricultural sector to address the major challenges it has faced recently, such as climate change and the economic crisis.

In short

The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food is implementing the project “Agriculture with Intelligence”—Digital Transformation of the Agricultural Sector, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The project, which involves contractors NEUROPUBLIC, the OTE Group, and the advertising agency SKARMOUTSOS GEORGIOS, addresses the entirety of the country’s arable land and targets all producers.

During its implementation, the project will involve the design, procurement, installation, and configuration of infrastructure, which will serve as the foundation for:

  • Collecting data from agricultural parcels across Greece.
  • Processing this data through subsystems to promote smart information at the field level.
  • Developing a national agricultural policy.

Project Scope

The project includes:

  • Installing 3,000 Supportive Data Collection Stations across various crops in Greece.
  • Installing 50 Agrometeorological Stations (Enhanced Precision Data Collection Stations).
  • Utilizing 50 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones).
  • Leveraging Satellite Images.
  • Creating and managing a Smart Farming Electronic Platform that offers personalized updates.
  • Establishing and operating Distribution and Support Centers (one office in each regional unit of the country) to inform and support producers, agronomists, and other stakeholders.

The above technological infrastructure will collect and maintain high-quality heterogeneous data covering the majority of the country’s arable land. This data will potentially be utilized for the development of specially designed services and products for Greek farmers. Furthermore, this data will form a reliable basis for further research activities in the fields of agronomy and the environment.
